Welcome!

This is the web presence of a research project supported by the Romanian National Council for Scientific Research in Higher Education entities (CNCSIS). The project, running within the Research Centre for Atomic Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Bucharest, aims to enlarge the capabilities of the Physics Department in the area of Astrophysics, implementing a new laboratory, of Computational Astrophysics.

The proposed project will continue the numerical modelling begun in the framework of the European Research Training Network JETSET within an international network of colaborators.

The laboratory will be fitted with a newest generation, later upgradeable, High Performance Computing system that will permit complex mgnetohydrodynamical (MHD) simulations of jets from Young Stellar Objects (YSO) and the comparison with observations.

The numerical simulations will improve the understanding of the connection between the physical properties of jets and their electromagnetic emission at various wavelengths. The range of physical phenomena included in the numerical codes will be extended, as well as the implementation of supplemental emission lines (adding new atomic species and interesting emission lines).

The MHD code PLUTO, developed by the reserach group in Turin, will mainly be used, but also another code will be implemented for comparison and verification. The results from the numerical simulations will be used for complex models of jets with multiple emission knots that will be compared with observations available in the literature.

Students will participate to the research during their graduate or post-graduate studies.
